I do not know that much about Jane. She and Edward seemed to have moved to Orton Longueville shortly after their marriage. The births for the first several children were registered there. The birth of Isabel Margaret was at Shipston on Stour however. That could mean that they moved back to the Stourton area before they immigrated to the USA. She does not appear in any city directory for Leavenworth, Kansas before her death in 1896. The family first appears there in 1893.

I have received a copy of some sort of death certificate for her. It says that she died of "paralysis." I am not sure what that means in this context. The physician was Dr. S. B. Longworthy. She was living at 15th & Spruce when she died. That is the address for the family then. Her internment card for Mt. Muncie cemetery where she is buried, says that she was survived by her husband, two sons and three daughters.

The obituary from January 9, 1896 reads: Mrs. E. A. Timms died at her home on Spruce and Fifteenth streets on Tuesday afternoon. She was not sick long. Her funeral will take place from the family residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Friends of the family are invited to attend. For some reason, she was re-interred on November 5, 1913. I am guessing that her husband Edward bought a plot then.

"ART HALEY IS LIONS CITIZEN OF THE YEAR - (photo) The Wiarton Lions Club Citizen of the Year award was initiated to honour annually a member of our community for outstanding service. This can be in any discipline including but not limited to sports, education, social services or volunteerism. The award can be presented for long and continuous service for a cause or causes or for one individual outstanding act. The recipient of the award is presented with a keeper plaque and the name of the individual is also inscribed on the Hall of Honour plaque at the Wiarton Hospital; where many outstanding community citizens are continuously remembered.

The receipt of this award for the 2001 - 2002 Lions year is Mr. Art. Haley.

ABOUT ART

Arthur is a very energetic, multi-talented, caring man. In his many years he has endured the Great Depression, labored on the railway, married for over 56 years, served Canada in World War Two, raised a larg family, farmed, worked for the International Harvester for 31 years, and now, volunteers in many groups and organizations, as well as writing poems, framing pictures, and keeping Wiarton Willie's history organized for viewing.

At every turn in his life, Art has thanked God for the past and finds some new challenges to keep him going forward, doing good deeds where ever he can. Art's good deeds are well documented by the Wiarton Echo, as he is often photographed presenting awards, donating his time, and helping worthwhile organizations.

In 2000, Art was honoured with the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award by Her Excellency Adrian Clarkson. Art reciprocated with with a framed poem for the Governor General. Later that same year the Bluewater Board of Education honoured Art for the wonderful work he did for the Wiarton Public school.

Often you'll see him walking rapidly down the Wiarton streets, on his way to the next important event on his busy schedule. His calendar is full at any time - just try to visit him - you have to make an appointment.

Art's recent activities include - but are not limited to - volunteering for the Wiarton school, writing a monthly column for the Echo for the Friends of the Library, helping with plans for the new library, working for the Legion Education Committee, helping local youth get a skate board park, arranging for continuous art displays in the library of local artists donating of money, gifts, and talent, collecting for the Cancer Society, being an active member of the Oliphant's Young at Hearts club, fulfilling the many duties in the Wiarton Masonic Lodge, and donating items to the Hospital Auction.

Art has written poems since the early years of his life, the feelings during the war, and his family's growth, hard times and successes. Now he includes writing poems to honour many community members as well as special events. Making presentations, reading his poems, reading other author's works, acting in plays or sharing his wide range of information on many tipics are all done with pleasure by Art.

Art also enjoys collection, making and sharing a wide range of items, the least of which are books.

In his spare time, Art enjoys a good horse shoe game, listening to music, watching Lawrence Welk, attending any musical event, and helping friends and family celebrate all the milestones in their lives. Mrs. Marian Carlsson, a teacher that Art worked with often at the Wiarton Public school recently stated: Art is a respectful, lifelong learner and an excellent role model for others to follow."
