It has been said that all the Allelys in Ireland descend from two brothers in Cork who were Huguenots from France. That story apparently was given to a Tommy Allely by a Dr. Allely. My distant cousin Susan Allely has been told as well that it is a Huguenot name. According to the doctor, the two brothers were with King William at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.

There is an Ann Wignell, age 19, born in Wallington, a cook, in the 1851 census for Kensington Town, Middlesex. She works for Emanuel Marking who seems to be in the army. This could well be her.

I do not know when she was born, only that she is in her uncle John's will in 1801.

I know from the will of her brother Edward Timms that she was still alive in May 1743. She is mentioned in her father's will of 1751. She is the only daughter so mentioned. In John's will of 1801, she is married to John Webb of Hilcot, Gloucester. I cannot seem to locate the marriage. She does not appear in the MI's for Whichford. The only Hilcot I can find is in Wiltshire. Since John will does not name any nieces or nephews of this sister, I am wondering if they had any children.

The date of his baptism comes from the parish records for Whichford. The remaining details relating to his marriage and his children also come from the parish records.

In the will of his brother John, he is described as being of Stowerton and is a butcher. There is an interesting document dated December 26, 1721 involving William Webb of Whichford, Walter Webb of Tidmington, brother of William Webb, and William Timms, butcher. It involves the sale from William Webb to Walter Webb of Infield close in the occupation of William Timms. Now Infield Close is later dealt with in the will of William's brother John. How did it get into his hands? William's sister Elizabeth married a Walter Webb. Was this the same Walter Webb? I think it is he because if one looks at the marriage settlement of Elizabeth and Walter Webb, he gives to Henry Timms and John Gibbs, the close called Infield Close

Now that I have pretty well established whose daughter she was, it seems that John Timms married his cousin Sarah who had quite an inheritance from her father. That may well have been one of the sources of his later wealth, although he also got a lot from his uncle Henry.

In the 1851 census she is shown as age 55, which would make her born in 1794, as would the burial records for the parish of Cherrington. Her tombstone must be mis-inscribed as it has her dying at 81 in 1864 which would mean she was born in 1784. This must be either a transcription error or a reading error. I am satisfied that she was born in 1794. I have used the date from the parish burial records.

I have guessed his birth from his MI. His MI reads: In memory of two sons of John and Ann Jarrett. William who died September 22, 180(0) aged 22 years and Thomas who died May 11, 1812 aged 21 years. I cannot find either christening. Do they belong with another John and Ann?
