CHRISTOPHERSON, Eileen Grace
(nee Flanagan)
August 18, 1920 - September 11, 2015
Our much-loved sister, aunt and friend, Eileen Christopherson, passed away peacefully at Mount Royal Care Centre, Friday, September 11, 2015 at the age of 95 years. She is survived and remembered with joy by many friends and family, including her sister Maureen (Flanagan) Montgomery, brother-in-law Les Spalding, dear cousins Father Ed Flanagan, Elizabeth Cooney and Jim (Kathy) Pretty, and a host of nieces and nephews and their families: Kathy Oliver, Lee (Val) Spalding, Stephen Spalding, Melanie (Len) Sinfield, Mary (Jeff) Farley, Jim Mahony, Mike (Lorna) Mahony, Maureen (Trent) Roloff, Dennis (Zoe) Mahony, Lori Montgomery, and Jennifer (Demetrios) Georgeadis. Eileen was predeceased by her parents John and Kathleen (Pretty) Flanagan, sisters Kathleen Spalding and Margaret Mahony, and husband Arne Christopherson. Eileen was born in Calgary, where she attended St Mary's Girls School along with her sisters. She was secretary to the Commanding Officer at RCAF Equipment Depot #11 1941-45. She worked for many years for what was then British Petroleum, and very much looked forward to her outings in her later years with the Talisman Alberta Retirement Association. Throughout Eileen's life, she was an avid traveller - many times with the University of Calgary Travel Study programs - and there weren't many corners of the world she didn't visit at least once. Egypt was one of her favourite destinations, and a topic of frequent stories. She loved to throw dinner parties for her friends and family and share stories of her many travels. Despite her dementia in recent years, Eileen continued to be delighted by many visitors, including her great-niece and nephew Michaela and Liam Roloff and treasured friends Len and Sarome Maxwell. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Right At Home (especially Kye Johnson) for helping to keep Eileen in her beloved home as long as possible, and the staff at Mount Royal Care Centre for welcoming her warmly for her final months. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307-14 Street SW) on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307-14 Street SW) on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Private graveside service to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
