The family history that come from Barbara Buchanan (Bridgeman) says that her name was "Clara" not "Clare." Jackie Halterman also says it was Clara, so it probably is.

Apparently her cemetery stone reads "Christenie". The Haley History has it as "Christina." The marriage registration says Christiana. The McFarlanes are related to the Nears says Austin Timms. In the 1901 census, there is a Near family very near (pun intended).

The marriage register note him as James Sinclair not "St. Clair"; presumably he knew how to spell his name As well, the 1991 census shows Maria Sinclair as a widow back living with her parents. There is a James Sinclair living in Mosa Township, Middlesex East in the 1881 census. He is married to a Mary Anne who is 24 years old. Is this he and did his wife die after 1881. I am guessing yes.

She is the aunt Clara who loved in Calgary in the 20's. Since Roy German also lived there during that time, was she his sister? As I have discovered, the annswer to that is no.

There is a Clara German in the 1881 census for Ontario. The family name could be read as "Germain." She is in West Nissouri. She is six years old at the time of the census. She is of Irish origin and her father's name is John. There are two other Claras as well. One is in Lambton County and one is in Middlesex but is fifteen years old. Given that in the marriage register her father is John, that would tend to indicated that she is the one in West Nissouri.

In the marriage register, her last name is spelled "Jerman."

Roy German is found in Blanchard Township, in Perth South. He may not be related.

Her husband is not in the 1937 Calgary Directory but Mrs. William T. is living at that address. I found her as Mrs. C. M. Haley in the 1939 Calgary Directory living at 1602, 13th Ave. W. Since she was the only Haley at that address, presumably William Thomas had died before then. She appears again there in 1942 and again in 1948. She is also in the 1948 Voters' List for that address. She was a guest at my parents' wedding in 1940.

In the 1948 Voter's list, she was living at 1602 13th Avwnue, West. Arthur William Haley, Frank Cecil Haley, and Annie Clara Haley were living at 1206 19th Avenue N, W.. Are there more children than I thought? By 1951, the last three people were still at that address but not Clara Maude.

I am curious about a reference to "Aunt Clara" in written by Madia Timms in March 1937. She says that Clara was wise to become a housekeeper for someone and rent her house out to make some money. She then says that perhaps "the old boy might marry her eventually". So who was the "old boy"?

There were a parcel of Haleys in Lethbride Alberta in the 1990s. There was an Arthur G. Haley with his wife Enid, a Crystal Haley. a Dracy haley, a Jeab Grace Haley, a S. Haley, and a W. Haley.

Dad says he started an oil well supply company in Calgary which was doing very well but he died in a plane crash in the early 1940's. That fits with the letter from a Flora Amy Fenn who refers to her former husband Jack Haley dying in a plane crash in 1948.

I have found him in the 1946 City of Calgary Directory. He is listed as "Jack C. Haley, president of Haley Supply Co. He lives at 1216 13th Ave. W. There is a big advertisement for his company. He re-appears in 1947 and 1948 but is gone by 1949. However, his company is still there.

In that same directory, there is an Arthur Haley working for the CPR, and a William C. Haley an engineer working at the Calgary General Hospital.

I am not at all sure that I have spelled this name right. She was buried at Green Hills Memorial Park.
