In the 1910 US Census, he is shown as coming to the USA in 1901. He and Anna are living next door to Einar and Martine. In another census, it is 1900. He and Einar seemed to follow one another around as they are neighbours in North Dakota and Saskatchewan. He has a brother Gust living with him in 1916 in Saskatchewan.
