Judy's Cheese-Egg ... Thingy

This is a great brunch recipe.



8-10 slices bread
[Italian, French or egg bread, with crusts removed]
1/3 cup melted butter
1/2 lb grated cheddar cheese
4 oz grated Monterey Jack cheese
Butter a large, deep casserole dish. Place half of the bread in one layer on the bottom. Brush bread with half of the melted butter. Sprinkle half of the grated cheeses over the bread.
Layer the remainder of the bread, butter and cheese the same way.
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 jalapeno pepper, chopped and seeded
1/2 tsp chile powder
Beat the eggs together with the remaining ingredients. Pour over the bread layers. Let stand for 30 minutes or so.
Bake at 375° for 30-40 minutes, or until puffy and browned.
Serve with salsa, or other sauce.
